Location: Bucknall, Stoke on Trent

Salary: Leadership Scale L1-L5 £49,781 to £54,939 depending on experience

Hours: 40 hours per week, Term time only

Main Purpose

To promote and role model the trusts values and the school vision in order to deliver our school purpose, ‘Empowering uniqueness, realising potential and building resilience’ for all our young people.  To lead the running of all aspects of the Upper School KS3 and KS4 Department to achieve strong outcomes for all students, both academically, socially and emotionally.  To build a strong, cohesive supportive team across the department.

Key duties:

  • Promote and model best practice around SEN and Autism and to continue to build on the knowledge and expertise of the team.
  • Provide an environment for teaching and learning that empowers both pupils and staff to achieve their fullest potential.
  • provide professional leadership to secure sustained improvements in the school’s performance.
  • Support the Head in maintaining and developing high standards of teaching and learning across all areas of the curriculum, through participation in learning walks, lesson observations, appraisal processes, work sampling, planning monitoring, data analysis and monitoring of outcomes-inputting into improvement planning processes.
  • To lead on understanding progression, possible accreditation pathways, provision mapping and curriculum development across all areas of responsibility. To lead in transitions and transition planning – whether that be transitioning in to school, from Key stage to Key stage or post 16 pathways and careers education e.g. moving to College.
  • Demonstrate outstanding SEN and ASD classroom practice, acting as a role model to other staff through your positive inclusive ethos - creating a warm, positive, nurturing environment for staff and students
  • Lead by example - with integrity, creativity, resilience, and clarity - drawing on your own scholarship, expertise and skills, and that of those around you.
  • Be passionate about building strong, supportive relationships with colleagues: supporting, coaching and mentoring other staff to develop their practice
  • Work in partnership with other key staff, parents/carers, clinical team and wider professionals to ensure the best outcomes for every young person

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

Qualifications:

PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent teaching qualification and Evidence of in-service training.

 Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Successful teaching of pupils with SEN and autism
    Previously worked in a school leadership role or evidence of leading a department or area of responsibility
  • Experience of successful school improvement
  • Knowledge of School Education Review and School improvement strategies and School Development plan
  • Experience of Ofsted Inspections and awareness of Independent school standards (or willingness to learn)
