Blackstone Recruitment is seeking a Catering Assistant who can promote healthy eating and provide varied meals that meet the required care standards and contribute to the wellbeing of Children and Young People in SEN School.
Role Details:
- Location: Southwest Surrey / southwest of central London
- Employment type: Full time
- Hours Per Week: 37.5 hours per week (7.30am until 3.30pm - 40 weeks per year)
- Salary: £22,795 pa
Key Duties:
- Plan, prepare, and cook fresh well-balanced meals for pupils and staff, considering their specific dietary requirements and preferences
- Collaborate with special education staff to develop interesting and varied menus that accommodate individual dietary restrictions and sensory needs
- Ensure that all meals are prepared and served in accordance with food safety regulations and best practices
- Maintain stock levels
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with health & safety policies
- Foster a positive dining experience for pupils by creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere during mealtimes
- In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking within the school as well as general kitchen duties including putting deliveries away, cleaning and washing up.
- You will collaborate with special education staff to develop interesting and varied menus that accommodate individual dietary restrictions and sensory needs
Essential Candidate Criteria:
- A Level 3 qualification or equivalent is an essential requirement, as well as previous experience preparing and cooking meals gained within a professional kitchen environment
- Communication – Engaging with young people is key to understanding their needs and ensuring important information is shared with the team.
- Organisation – Confidence and organisation are needed for updating menus, managing dietary requirements, and reporting relevant information.
- Attentive – Being attentive to each young person’s unique needs helps identify where support is necessary.
- All applicants must undergo safeguarding screening, including Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks, and provide at least two references covering the last three years.
- References should be from previous roles involving work with children or vulnerable adults.
